PROJECT: PUBLIC ART
03.11.2017
In class, we had more time to work on the clothes, and after that, we made an exhibition displaying them. Most of the works are made by morphological approaches and mine was too. It was interesting people used different materials in limited colors. The most memorable work was the one made of yoga mat pieces. Also, one person made all the works in white and it felt like a BA fashion show.
Personally, I think uniting the color was a very good idea. It is a method to make everything look neat and make morphological parts more remarkable. Usually I like to match the clothes with one tone, but after I saw the works, I want to make one-colored clothes without changing brightness.
02.11.2017
I went to the art museum once more, to work on a research. Going to the same art museum many times made me closely look at each piece of works.
At first, I used to watch the mood of works, but now I'm trying to think more about the writers' intention. Also, I wasn't really interested in photos before, but nowadays I think it's wonderful to watch the world spread from the tiny little angles. After I went to the art museum, I started to do a research about photos. I started to be interested in the famous professional photographer, Philippe Halsman. I liked his world view and his unique personality rather than his works.
Nowadays people want to take pretty photos. They want the best angle with their prettiest face. But Halsman wants to take photos of the real person as he or she is. If you look at the photo book, 'Jumping', people are jumping as they are. I think it's a brilliant way to reveal people's true colors. Next time, I want to internally focus on him as a motif.

I worked with a sparkling silver cloth, black cloth, and a scrap of thread cut from a carpet. I wanted to make it sparkling and remarkable as much as possible, but I am worried if things are going well just as I intended. I made it more splendid by draping the long scraps of thread. I thought about dragging them on the ground, but It would've been too much. I think it was a good choice to attach the mirror-like reflective clothes to the face part.
The effect made my work look bigger, and it was a good. This ornament also looks like a fan shape. I was inspired and got the idea of these mirror-like clothes from the works of Liu. All his performance art works are projective and gives a see-through-like feeling. It is interesting that my work is very different from his, but the concept is same.
However, I was a bit disappointed that the model wasn't wearing black, when shooting. In that shooting, I couldn't get an outstanding look that I imagined, though, it was better when shooting in black and white.
31.10.2017
We tried to make clothes in the way of origami, using a whole paper. Teachers made us connect the clothes face-to-face, but I focused more on the upper body. My friend tried the clothes as a model, and the elements were outstanding in three dimensions. I also like the focal point in face area.
I made a frame looking like a noble woman's clothes, as I was told before. If I made the more develop in that part, I would get a better result.
In the process, I was a little confused and unsure that the whole paper -not a cloth- can make an actual clothes if I make real clothes of it. I'm also worried the limited colors in this topic. I'm not sure if we can make an impression with monotone colors,
30.10.2017
In today's class, we talked about the research, showing and commenting each other's. Our shared topic was to unite the clothes with monotone colors and I tried to do a develop for it. My friends gave me feedbacks;
(1) It was simple but the layout was great.
(2) They interpreted the topic in a fun way. When we did the research yesterday, we thought about referring to the painters' works, but I think I insisted my own ways, and it bothered me a little.
28.10.2017
Today subject is Public art and then noblewoman is my individual subject in this weekly project. I want to make a mood that is fancy but it is little bit boring prejudcie that's reason I show incompatible mood.
I inspires artists who is Liu Bolin Chinese artists. Almost all of his works look like passing through. Becasue he wanna fly in the face of public, He talked about inequality of human. I think it is related to noble woman cause before they are just pretty doll of men.
Finally I decided shape what I make. I focused on upper body.
25.10.2017
Today I went Tate exhibition in order to research this subject. I want to look for contemporary monotone work. Finally I found one artist who is Sheela Gowda. It is composed human hair and car bumpers. The hair is all woven . Gowda's highly intensive, process- driven approach highlights the precarious state of manual labour and human effort in an increasingly globalised and interconnected world.
24.10.2017
I researched modern culture and animals are confined. In my opinion it is proper develop so I inspired what I looked for. After that I made samples its mood is so chill.
We had assignment that is bringing outcome so I need to search image.
* grey
*animal
*construct-
23.10.2017
Today we went Barbican and we drew many sketches. I focused construct and vertical and horizontal line. I was amazing because it is modern building and then we use that space. We create public art! Some group used white thread looked like spinning a web.
We made textiles what we felt. I focused on "chill" cause Barbican building is composed grey color so it look like super strict and cold. It's reason why my main color is cold color
13.10.2017
Today me and my friends watched Tate Morden Gallery which has comtemporary interior. First I watched sculpture it is used white fabric and wood. Title is 'White painting'. When I first watched this, I felt it is little bit simple than other works but it is really strong. It has free- form therefore look like more grace. Also using few colors such as black and white and simple form are fascinated me at that time . I inspire that work about something less formal.
And then I walked around by exhibition and I stopped and stared another sculpture. It is composed a lot of gold ceramics and a few of blue ceramics. It showed different colors when I look it different spot and also depending on light reflecting. Its' huge scale make us fantastic because we watched it more clearly and can observe it precisely.
Finally, third thing of the most memorable work is using interior and using point color that is mixed dark. It looks so comfortable and I felt using interior product look like Illusion that looks bigger.
12.10.2017
We had group project that has subject. It was collage of our work and we have time to express our inspiration about our outcome. Our group discussed how we present works using video. We had a lot of ideas but we don't have any ideas. It makes us stressful but we find a way. We wanna show intuitive video. We didn't want to make indigestible video. In addition to include our voice seem more easy to understand our meaning.
We made video but it looks so simple so I wanna make new video what I want. I just wanna make more simple thing because it was matched my work. Therefore my main color is black and white it looks very refined also using 'Stop motion' skill is one kind of my advantage because it looks more grunge and unique. While I editing video, I felt it is so memorable time because I had term to organize my thoughts,
10.10.2017
We did make 6 samples that is connected before project in class . It was really strict because we had to create in 5 hours. Eventually we made samples but I feel period is too short to make high quality samples. However, I felt catharsis at the same time because their figures are really unique that what I want. In my opinion, this is one kind of advantage that I got undreamed- of making things. And then we had critic time in class. My peers commend me using variety materials and keep going this mood. They said my work has strong attractive thing while it is difficult to describe in words.
This is their detail comment.I can't remember peer's name so I suppose their name A and B
A: I love the use of creating an atmosphere in your page and the use materials also love the color and line use along with the use of effective shape. Love your final samples design. The layout is great and really different from others. It is quite unique.
B:Very linear and minimalistic makes me comfortable .Using repeated color and patterns have a decisive effect that is simple but intense. However if you use another textile or fabrics, it will be looked more fancy than before.
Finally I will reflect the feedback in my work . I should take this opportunity to create nice works.
10.10.2017
I look back at all of my recent project and then I notice that when I use variety material which makes my works more interesting. Sometimes it look so messy and dirty but if I develop that work, this problem will be solved. In addition to I consider developing this project I should make up writing more details such as I have to develop a design with meaning and extend my ideas. Also I need to use more research to help my develop a design with more meaning. This thing will give me good impact so I have to do it.
05.10.2017
Scarcely gone to school, we made one more sample. To seek inspiration from 6 samples that is our homework. I collected benefits of my six samples which are classy tone and sufficient unified and make up weakness that is too simple. So I make unique pattern that attached my work.
We had critic time, my friends watched my sketchbook and they recommended to using another material. They said my project's mood and its color is little bit different others because almost students works are so colorful but mine is simple but intense. I prefer that way and it is my style.
After school, I drew many drawings and I think about my work way. I am satisfied because everything did move forward as planned.First, I avoided using a lot of color and pursue white tone work that makes us comfortable. I used scissors and glue in oder to making volume. It looks so fancy also I concentrate on shape than function.I copied nature and contemporary buildings silhouette. After that I considered to work between past and present. This is reason why I draw straight line and circle( symbol of nature). I wanna work more deep.
02.10.2017
My assignment was to research traditional clothes. Students researched many kinds of clothes and I considered about what to choose. After thinking about my topic, I chose 'Kimono', a traditional Japanese clothing. Choosing 'Hanbok', which is my country's traditional clothing, would have been easier however, I was completely entranced by the idea of Kimonos; they have individual traits but Hanbok is active and functional garment. In contrast, Kimono is more aesthetic than functional. It shows off the body's curves because it is a tight- fitting dress. In addition, it has a lot of fancy patterns and colors that are captivating and inspiring, this is reason why I picked the Kimono.
It is so simple if I work only using Kimono's figure so I studied parts of Kimono. It is little different between our clothes and Kimono. Ours' are disconnected top and bottoms but it is just composed one-piece. It has simple shape than ours but they have special thing that is 'Obi'. Obi is one kind of assecaries which is similar belt. It fix their clothes. Japanese has reason for having their special belt called 'Obi'. Generally, they have small body than other Asian and it strengthen the strength and make up for the weakness. It is combined functional and aesthetic things.
As a result of researching, generally Japanese wear Kimono when they have an annual events. For this reason, they reflect the style of contemporary in their traditional garment. However Obi don't have dynamic change, it develop just printing and embroidery. Therefore I want to work changing Obi about shape.
Befitting the traditional clothing in Asia, Obi is did needlepoint by men of old times which is carved flowers and birds. However it is too boring because it is not unique. I wanna show off collage shape of industrial things.
29.09.2017
We had a student exhibition about jacket project and I felt it is really awesome. Because when I made it, I just focused on figure and shape but someone focused on pattern. In different perspectives, give me inspiration because I can try creative way after this time. One student's work is really nice that focused on volume so it is super big size. I think its reason that is more attractive. Of course it is not all but important factor to appeal audience.
*Next time I will try
intensive size
creative material
super colorful
28.09.2017
I made a jacket it is time to know one kind of my ego. When I made this, I confused how I start it .So I refer to my research and develop. Its silhouette give me inspiration and and then I deconstruct jacket and attached all of fabric what I bring.
I want to look like a big bat so I focus side line in order to look bigger. Finally I decided how to make it. When someone spread my jacket, it seem wing. Also unifying color is portion to match concept.
27.09.2017
The hardship when I made clothes was the concept was too broad for me. There was no specific direction for students, and actually that makes me hard when I get the concept. Broad concepts may mean freedom and liberty in our work, however sometimes that makes us to feel difficult, because we don’t know how to handle it.
Today I researched designer Yogi.
25.09.2017
We brought jackets and tutors had students mixed all clothes that they bring. We divided into groups two and created new shape. It was super amazing. Because I learn about jackets can be a hat or pants at that time whatever we want and then draw fashion illustrates.
After morning class, we had to deconstruct in order to create new thing so used stapler and pins it is easy to focus on shape. I think deconstruct is really important factor in fashion. It give us a new approach. Like de- constuctivism it's reason I worked take jacket off.
24.09.2017
Our assignment is looking for second hand jacket and some fabric so our tutor recommend us to go to charity shop. I want to get black things because it makes more easier to match each materials. After that, I researched the designer who has good skills making unique figure.
In my opinion, Yohji Yamamoto is the best to make nice silhouette. So I draw some sketch to refer to his work. It inspire me to think creative and I draw that silhouette.
20.09.2017
Thinking creative idea is not necessarily propotional to time. In my private opinion, they are not associated in art. When I was student at art school we always exhibited gallery that held every year for us. Preparing gallery period was 3 months, and almost students spend a month researching work or choosing materials for their work and spend 2 months drawing or making their work that will be displayed at arts exhibition in October.
That was our rule that tutors recommend that distribution of time but one of the students our school refuse that. She spent 2 months researching material and spent a month drawing. This is reason why teacher voiced concern about her plan. Because we already had fixed paper size that is too big to draw during a month. Also she drew a lot of study. What was worse, she worked the night before our exhibition.
At that day, she barely submitted her work. Hers' quality was bad but that is a matter of course. All students without her drew picture twice as much or more. However her picture is so special because her material is rare things that imported from overseas. She wants creative idea and awesome material and then she did it. Everybody had an affinity for her work, finally she got first place in our school gallery. Thereafter I agree that between time and idea have non relationship. It was valuable experience because there was a complete change in the mindset.
19.09.2017
Today I had class at Kings cross CSM campus. Tutors presented content of class that is drawing structures and landscape without people. We had to draw 5 pictures during an hour. I thought about various expressive technique. My tutor wants creative things, so I seek information from a mobile. I searched works quickly and than I refer to frottage, decalcomanie technique and line drawing. I work up many materials for example markers, colors pencils, scissors, glue and my valuable pen. I drew building that has structural characteristics so I wrote a lot of straight lines. After an hour we appreciated friends' works. Some of students made a collage using leaflets. It looks like 'Sammy Slabbink' s work. After that we make a three dimensional sculpture. It is a process of next project that is attaching our paper pieces to partner body.
My friend attached her paper on my body especially head side. She want fancy hair pieces. I think it looks like high and steep building. My turn to show came around, I cut paper circle, waved shape. I expected curvy shape cloth so I made a huge volume thigh side. It looks like one kind of animals. I work out this project with marked success.
Finally, We were standing in a row because we should draw our work also we can watch others' work. I inspired friends' work, for example sensitive details, rough but sharp form etc.. We drew picture using left hand . It give me fantastic drawing. I like this creative class it always make me amazed.

When I research something with my group members, we saw exhibits such as relics, paintings, sculptures, etc. In order to not get out of the original subject, we recorded individual opinion and another member( Amanda ) serve as a clerk. It makes us sensitive. Also we selected group representative (Grace) who give a repartee and express her idea well. Her flexible attitude makes other people trust and obey her. We did individual part perfectly so we finished our presentation well.

Hedonists believe that the goal of life to chase anything pleasurable to be happy.
Chasing materialistic things like money, partnerships, success and power.
Like mesh material this seems like it will provide you with security and have you covered. But in fact also like the mesh material this has faults, spaces, holes when you zoom into the material and look closely.
So for example here, we believe that Nicole is covered up and is very secured with this layer of protection, however in fact it is the complete opposite. She is still cold, she can still feel the breeze passing her leg.
mesh is used in weddings, for the brides Viel…
17.09.2017
Our them was 'Hedonism', material was 'Mesh', and process was 'Knit'. We concluded hedonism is directly connected to pleasure, which is the biggest happiness. After having discussion with my group I ended up with the idea that the biggest happiness is based on wealth. The reason is modern society requires huge amount of money for stay alive. To satisfy basic human desire or needs like food, house, and clothes to wear or higher desire based on your ego by going to watch a show, have nice meal in restaurant you need money.
As a conclusion, we came up with the idea that a formula 'Hedonism means happiness plus money' really suits with people living in modern society. But satisfying on initial idea doesn't really make the idea to be in perfect form, so I started to throwing questions to my idea. The question that developed my idea was 'Is money really everything needed for proper life?'. So the following idea after that question was that things like love, friendship or the sense of accomplishment is essential to live happy but something that you can't afford with money no matter how much you've got in same time. Money could get you visible things, but I consider abstract things that you can't afford with money is also essential ingredient for proper life. So I consider money and the material 'Mesh' have a lot of things is common. Mesh seems like a well knitted elaborately. But when you take a close look on it, mesh is fragile material with holes. Just like mesh, money seems it can afford the whole world, you can get only physical and visible 'products' in your life.
We decided to present this idea in form of performance to deliver our idea in an effective way. Nicole is going to wear a t-shirt which is close to her skin color to cause an optical illusion, and rest of us in group will attach memos with the list of things that we can afford with money and can not written on it. After we cover her body with a vale Nicole took all the memos off by herself. The words on list are just so essential to stay alive, and the reason of covering her body is to criticize people who can't realize that we also need abstract things like love. Most of people in this modern society, they can't realize that we need things that we can't get with money. Their eyes are covered with money, but I think it's not their fault. I consider it's responsible to the world that demands people to live busy for just to live. They consider money is the thing that can give them biggest plasure, but as soon as you think that way, your chance to get anything more precious than money will be taken away. I want them to get away from considering money as a most important material in your life.

Today, we discussed about"HEDONISM" that is our first subject. Hedonism is also defined as the peak of happiness, a mantra of sorts that connects all human beings together with this strong emotion. I elaborated on this concept with my process, knit, as it draws maternal love together through relatives like our grandmother's handmade scarf. Mesh is our material, a cloth that makes the human vulnerable, and we use this material to expose ourselves to the public. Connecting between the mesh and knit, I drew together that these are both objects and processes that bring us closer to happiness or hedonism. We talked our opinion and then recorded it. Tomorrow me and the group will go and research more on these concepts and I will also go see the different types of materials we can use for this project.
With my critical thinking, my research process has become more intricate and personal. I will use both my personal experiences and knowledge as well as my research skills to strengthen my portfolio and specifically this project. The way I will execute this is through looking into literature and books that relate to hedonism and the process of knitting. Then I will also look into the history and culture behind all these categories.
